As a fitness author and coach, I get to meet a lot of people who are struggling to stay fit. These people are not well-conditioned athletes but regular people like you and me, with a simple goal to lead a fit and healthy life.

If staying fit was this easy, India would not have been the diabetes capital for the world. Believe it or not, we all are having a tough time to juggle between our schedule, family, work and fitness. Fitness is always the least of our priority, considering it’s a “good to have”.

But then a time comes in our lives when it becomes a “need to have” when we find ourselves gaining weight and allowing different lifestyle diseases enter our body. Our impatience to combat this weight gain makes us do crazy things and fall for various fat loss lies. What are those fat loss lies.

LIE # 1

FAT BURNERS ACCELERATE FAT LOSS

This is one of the biggest lie in the food supplement industry! Fat burners wont work unless you eat a clean and healthy diet. One of the main ingredients of fat burner is caffeine, a stimulant, which can be acquired by drinking coffee. So stop believing in this lie and eat clean. You may not even need a fat burner to lose fat.

LIE # 2

CELEBRITY DIET PLANS WORK

Do not even follow any celebrity diet plans, because they are all lies. These are just marketing gimmicks to promote their film or products. From Kareena Kapoor size zero diet to Hrithik Roshan’s six pack journey, these actors will not share what they take other then the diet they are promoting. Don’t blindly believe what they are telling you.

LIE # 3

PROTEIN POWDER WILL REPLACE FAT WITH MUSCLE

Protein powder called whey proteins has nothing to do with weight loss. It will only help you recover from your intense work-outs so you could train the next day with ease. Whosoever said taking whey proteins will make you lose weight and convert fat into muscle is only trying to sell you the product (fitness trainers and supplement companies)

LIE # 4

LOW CARBS DIET IS THE BEST WAY TO LOSE WEIGHT

This is one of the most debated topics in the fitness industry with many researches taking a round. But the truth is carbs is not the enemy and our body need carbs in the diet. Eliminating carbs may help you lose weight but that weight loss will be temporary and once you start eating the weight will come right back (yo-yo effect). Do something which you can maintain not a short term fix. In a nutshell, eat carbs!

LIE # 5

THE BEST WAY TO LOSE FAT IS TO EXERCISE

Though this lie has some credence to it, but exercise will not be of any help if you don’t eat as per your body requirements. You may have seen many people spending hours in the gym but have had zero results on their bodies. The reason is simple: it is their diet! Not only you have to eat clean when you exercise but also manage your daily calorie intake. Get good with numbers.

Stop believing in all these lies – the only way to lose fat is to get good with numbers. Know how much you eat and how much you burn. If you can’t take control of these numbers, you will have no success with weight loss
