Running is bad for knees but we still love it

If you go to any of the fitness centers, you may see many people, especially women glued to treadmills. Despite being little overweight, they continue to run for hours, day after day, week after week. But almost all of them have had no luck in losing weight.

Its Funny Most Of These People, Drive Down Five To Six Kilometers Everyday, Just To Run On The Treadmill. Would Make More Sense If They Could Walk Or Jog And Then Probably Do Something More Intensive In The Gym, Which Could Be More Beneficial And Help Them Lose Weight.


We can be so stupid at times, rather most of the times, especially when it comes to weight loss. We keep doing cardio for months, only to realize that its not going to get us anywhere close to our fitness goal. But the persistent and stubborn Indian doesn’t stop there and takes a different route.


It took me some time to figure out our obsession for running. It doesn’t matter, if we get results or not, it just simply makes us feel great. There are many other non-fitness reasons:


We Indians love to boast about how much we run everyday, especially Dilli walas (Delhi people), and I say this as a Delhite myself. Delhi is definitely a show off city. From lavish fat Punjabi weddings to expensive night outs, Delhi people love to brag. That is also one of the reasons why they buy expensive gym membership and pay thousands for personal training sessions, only to boast or rather update their status on Facebook.

In this whole scheme of things, we forget that fitness is not about boasting how much you run or lift, it is about how you feel from within. You may be running for hours, but if don’t feel good from within; the running effort will be in vein.


Running after some time is not a cardio anymore for some people. It becomes part of their life and a great stress-buster. I know some people who are fat and can give many marathon runners a run for their money. For them it is not about fat loss anymore. Running has become therapeutic for them. You may find these people participating in various marathons, living and breathing the running culture.


You don’t need to be a runner to participate in marathon; all you need is basic conditioning. And one of life’s biggest joy will be finishing the marathon (7km -21 km) and it will do wonders to your self-confidence. Remember participating in the marathon is one of the easiest thing to do, but to finish it, is another challenging task. People who participate in marathon are regular people, who have a daytime job but their sheer love for running separates them from the crowd.

Running is not bad, but too much of it can actually do more damage to your knees. Decide the reason why you want to run, for marathon, general well being or weight loss. Don’t just waste your time by running endlessly on a treadmill for no reason.
